Brechin pupils’ first day at new school campus

ECShub Brechin High School 17-02-2016 043 Delighted youngsters in Brechin celebrated after taking their first steps in their new school after hub East Central Scotland recently handed over the new building, constructed by Robertson Tayside. The event marked the completion of phase one of a £26.5 million project to replace Brechin High School with a new community campus. Cllr Sheena Welsh, children and learning convener at Angus Council, said: “It is marvellous to see our young people in Brechin take their first steps into their new campus surroundings. “The campus will provide a wonderful environment in which to learn and develop for this generation and many generations to come. “As a focal point for Brechin, the new community campus will also provide the very best of modern facilities for residents of all ages.” Gary Bushnell, chief executive, hub East Central Scotland, said: “We have worked closely with Angus Council and Robertson to complete this first phase of the project ahead of schedule and on budget. The new school building provides a high quality facility that has been purpose built to meet the needs of pupils and staff.” Kevin Dickson, regional managing director, Robertson Tayside, said: “We are delighted to have reached phase one completion of Brechin Community Campus. This landmark development will provide a terrific learning environment for pupils. We look forward to managing the Brechin Community Campus project as it continues to progress.” The new campus includes enhanced community leisure facilities, a performance space and accommodation for adult learning and youth activities. The second phase of the project will involve the demolition of the old school building, provision of new car parking and a synthetic sports pitch. The campus is due to be completed in October 2016.
