WORK UNDERWAY FOR NEW SCHOOL IN EAST NEUK

ECShub Waid sod-cutting 13-01-2016 016 Work has started on a new school in Fife’s East Neuk in a project led by hub East Central Scotland. When complete, The Waid will provide a new facility which will become a school and community learning hub as well as an environment for wider community participation. This provides the opportunity to fulfil the vision of a truly integrated facility which will welcome all and provide a catalyst for enterprise and life-long learning. The new building will replace the existing school, which is a Victorian building with hutted classrooms with around 850 pupils and welcome a new library, police services, community office, adult learning and secondary education. Gary Bushnell, Chief Executive, hub East Central Scotland, said: “It is great to see the project progressing so well and we look forward to delivering a high quality building for the community next year. This is our second major schools project to get underway in Fife after work started last year on Levenmouth High School.” Council Leader, David Ross, said: “The Waid will be so much more than a school – it will be an asset that the whole community can benefit from.” Minister for Learning, Alasdair Allan, added: “The Scottish Government has worked closely with Fife Council to help improve its school estate and I’m pleased we could provide around £11 million in funding towards this project through our Scotland’s Schools for the Future programme.” The new school is being built by BAM Construction and due for completion in summer 2017.
