New Caledonia High School Handed Over

Fife Council has officially taken ownership of the new Caledonia High School in Rosyth, marking the completion of this major investment in education for west Fife.

Caledonia High School will replace Inverkeithing High School and provide a modern, fit-for-purpose environment with flexible teaching spaces, digital learning facilities and areas for collaboration, alongside outdoor spaces that support health and wellbeing.

The keys were ceremoniously handed over to Fife Council’s Education Spokesperson, Cllr Cara Hilton, by BAM’s Construction Director for Scotland, Martin Cooper. Four pupil ambassadors from the school also joined the event, representing their school community and taking part in the official handover alongside Cllr Hilton.

Cllr Hilton expressed her enthusiasm for the milestone, saying:
“We’re delighted to take ownership of this outstanding new school. Caledonia High School represents a significant investment in the future of our young people and the wider community.

“This modern, high-quality learning environment has been designed to support pupils to thrive, and it will serve generations of young people across west Fife.”

Construction of the new school began in Autum of 2024, with BAM Construction leading the build through partnership working with Fife Council and hub East Central Scotland.

Brian Craig, Chief Executive, hub East Central Scotland, said: ”We are proud to have worked with Fife Council to deliver another high quality school for them in the heart of the local community, providing a high quality learning environment for generations to come.”

Reflecting on the project, Martin Cooper, BAM’s Construction Director for Scotland, said: “It has been a privilege to be part of delivering Caledonia High School. This project is a testament to the hard work and collaboration of everyone involved.

“We are proud to hand over a school that provides inspiring, modern spaces for learning and will have a lasting impact on the local community.”

Cllr Cara Hilton, added: “The new Caledonia High School is finally ours, and it’s fantastic to see it ready ahead of welcoming pupils after the summer. Staff can now begin putting the finishing touches in place to ensure a smooth transition.

“This is a hugely important moment for the school community as pupils from Inverkeithing High School prepare to move into a building that has been designed around their needs, with a strong focus on learning, wellbeing and sustainability.

“I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank Shelagh McLean, Head of Education, and John Hamil, Project Manager for BAM, who will both retire after the summer. Shelagh has made a significant contribution to education in Fife over many years, and John has played a key role in delivering a number of important projects across the area. Their dedication and commitment have helped make projects like this possible, and we wish them both all the very best for the future.”

The £88m school, which has been built on the former Rosyth Fleet Grounds, has capacity to accommodate over 1700 pupils, over three floors, with an open ‘see and be seen’ approach throughout the school, similar to other new schools across Fife.

The project forms part of Fife Council’s wider investment in school buildings across the region, delivered in partnership with The Scottish Government and Scottish Futures Trust.

Pupils will officially move into Caledonia High School following the summer break on 19 August 2026, marking the start of an exciting new chapter for the school community.
